Face time

Updated: Feb 23, 2019

My kids and my grand-kids live thousands of miles away from me in different locations around the world. What would I do without face time or skype chat? I can see their beloved faces, hear each of their unique voices and catch up with their lives so that the miles just melt away!

Did you know God invented “face time” long before there were i phones or skype?

Exodus 33:11 ….the Lord spoke to Moses face to face as a man speaks to his friend”

Often when I speak to my twin brother in England on skype he is preparing a meal, making a cup of tea or out walking the dog, I really do not mind at all i am just happy to see him and be part of his life and hear about his day.

Prayer is like that; when we chat with the Lord it doesn’t matter where you are, you don’t ned to be in a “holy” place or use religious language - just talk to Him, share your life with Him, tell Him your stuff (the big and the small) He’s interested in it all.

I don’t like to pester my kids, they have busier schedules than I do, so I wait for them to call me.

when its convenient for them

when they have time,

when they really want to

I would never want to “make” them call me just because it was expected of them. Our Heavenly Father is like that too.

I’m sure He would prefer five minutes heart felt spontaneous conversation than half an hour forced, bored out of our minds “have-to” prayer!

My son recently called me late one Friday night. He didn’t have a care in the world or anything specific he wanted to say, he was happy, relaxed and just wanted to talk with me, joke with me, tell me the little stuff, just BE with me because he loves me. Do you know how amazing that feeling was? No agenda, nothing he needed - he just wanted to hear my voice and feel close to me from across the miles.

That’s the type of prayer God is interested in.

Both my kids know that I am there for them no matter what. That I would drop everything, stop the film, change my schedule just to listen to anything they want to say,

That’s what genuine prayer is!

Mostly its spontaneous, heart-felt and beautiful.

Its very rare my kids ask me for anything when they call and I love that, although if they did I would try to "move heaven and earth" to get it for them. But generally it's just about being together!

Don’t offer up a monologue to God, expect Him to reply, “chip in”, voice His opinion; true prayer is engaging in a 2-way conversation, back and forth, until its all talked out.

We need to get rid of the notion that prayer is just about asking for things

Prayer is more about getting God than getting anything else.
