I often put a song at the end of my posts but today I want to start with this song because it is the inspiration for this whole post. You might end up listening to it several times if it blesses you as much as it has blessed me!
In Isaiah ch 40:31 we read these remarkable words
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint”
What does it mean to mount up on wings like eagles? Can we really fly in the high places of God?
Below is a beautiful video of a young eagle taking its first "fledgling" flight!
When it is time for the eaglet to fly for the first time, the mother eagle stirs up the nest and removes the cosy soft feathers she placed there to off-set the prickles of the branches and the thorns inside. The eaglet needs to be encouraged to venture out of its comfort zone to soar. At first it doesn't seem natural! And yet flying is core to an eagles identity. They were born to fly they just don't know it yet!
The parent eagle knows how amazing it is to soar on the thermals of air, the incredible freedom and scope of possibilities that will suddenly become available. Isn’t that like our God, He stirs us up with a desire to soar with HIM and experience ALL that He has for us in the high places with HIM. The possibilities are endless.
Another great advantage of soaring in high places with God is that we can change the actual location of the battlefield with our arch enemy "the snake!" The eagle swoops down and catches the snake with its talons and takes it up into the high places where it has no balance, stamina or control. The snake becomes weak and vulnerable in the air, unlike on the ground where it is wise, powerful and deadly. The higher we fly the stronger and more invincible we become!
The thermals of HIS Holy Spirit will lift us up. He will carry us ever forwards and upwards taking us higher into the Heavenlies. It will be the most beautiful thing you ever do this side of Heaven.....flying with HIM. It is a place of rest and acceleration with minimum effort from us, it's all HIM. The beautiful truth is that when we rest God works through us and the vistas have never been more beautiful.
