Over the last few months, I have spent countless hours taking courses and learning all I can about Pinterest. Once I saw what Pinterest could do for my business and for my clients, I could not sit and watch. My goal for the coming year is in fact to become the go-to person for Pinterest Management. If you are a business owner and you haven't figured out how Pinterest can help you business yet, you really need to stick around. What is Pinterest?

Many people consider Pinterest as another social media platform. Many have actually told me "I won't work on Pinterest before I master Facebook, then Instagram. Then I might consider learning about another Social Media Platform like Pinterest" But here is the key, if you change your view on Pinterest, you might understand it's potential. Pinterest is a giant visual search engine being used by millions of users daily. It is not a Social Media platform at all.

If you want to get your product, service or content seen by the public, even those you would never reach on social media, PINTEREST IS WHERE YOU NEED TO BE! It's also good to mention that this is a FREE marketing tool for you. Your only investment will be time as it is very time consuming but don't be disheartened. Once you have a system in place, it definitely gets much easier.

I want to give you a few steps that you can follow in order to have a successful experience on Pinterest and in order for it to be able to help you grow your traffic and sales.

Step 1: Set up your profile. You will need:

- a clear picture/logo (I usually suggest a picture but it depends on your brand), - - be sure sure your profile name is clear and lets potential readers know who you are and what you are about

- if possible, it would be great if your Pinterest URL matches your blog or website, but if it's already set up leave it as is.

- you will also need to write a short description. Make sure this is rich in keywords from your niche.

Step 2: Switch your account to a Business account. This way you will be able to view the analytics and see what is working and not working for you.

Step 3: Confirm your website and enable Rich Pins. Most website platforms will allow you to have Rich Pins. Rich pins give the person viewing your pin a lot more information than a regular pin and it also includes real-time information such as pricing, availability, and where to buy a product It shows the first paragraph of your content. This makes your pins stand out more, and has a direct link to your site.

Step 4: It's time to set up your boards. When you do this, take some time to brain storm. Think about your niche and what they would be looking for on Pinterest. This will help you come up with 10-15 board titles. If you blog about homeschooling for example, you might have boards that include: Learning activities for Toddlers, Writing prompts for kids, Educational toys for boys......Each board will need a keyword rich description. Aim to have at least 25 pins in each Make sure you have a board dedicated to ALL your pins. Some people call it "Best of ..." Others just give it the name of their brand/blog. Apart from bringing great traffic, having that board with all your content can be so satisfying and encouraging to see.

Step 5: Pinterest SEO - Before going into detail about Pinterest strategy, I want to write a quite note about Pinterest SEO. With Pinterest being a search engine, optimizing your pins is very important! Thankfully, they have made finding keyword phrases super easy for us!

I did a very quick search here just to give you an example. If I sell home furniture, and I wrote something about office furniture, I am going to want to optimize my pin. Here is where you find those keywords. Type a general search on top, then those buttons suggested by Pinterest, are what people are searching for. Those are your KEYWORDS...use them.

You need to use Keywords in your Bio, Board description and Pin description.

Step 6: Pinterest Strategy - Many have asked me, "Why should I pin other people's content and promote their business instead of mine." Well, you need to get on Pinterest's good books and beat the algorithm. You will do this by consistently pinning QUALITY content. The rule suggested by Pinterest is 20% your content and 80% curated content.

So even if you are just getting started, and only have very little content to share, by pinning those few pins that you have and pinning other people's content, you are still starting to build visibility and proving yourself to be a quality user offering quality pins to your niche.

You will want to pin anywhere between 10-50 pins per day. You can start small and build gradually.

A great help for this is Tailwind. This is an amazing tool, approved by Pinterest that will help you schedule all those pins in a few hours a week.

Step 7: Join Pinterest Group Boards and Tailwind Tribes - Once you have all the above figured out and you know what and how to pin wisely, it is time to join group boards and tribes. This will expose your Pins to a wider range of users that you would not have been able to reach alone.
